Compare Documents
Learn different ways to compare documents in Version Story, including simple A to B comparisons, comparing against multiple versions, and comparing non-sequential versions.

Simple Comparison: A to B
To create a simple comparison between two document versions:
(1) First make sure the documents you wish to compare have finished uploading
(2) Click and drag the document version tiles to arrange them in order, with the original version on the left and the modified version on the right
(3) Draw a line from the right-hand port of the original version to the left-hand port of the modified
(4) When your comparison is ready to view, a button will appear on the line connecting the two versions – click on that button to view the redline
Compare a document to multiple next versions
To compare a document against multiple next versions, simply repeat the steps for creating a simple comparison between an original version and multiple next versions.
Add next version(s) to compare
You can also add one or more versions and create comparisons with a single action.
To do this, click on document version that is already on the canvas to select it.
The "Add Version" button on the bottom toolbar will change to say "Next Version(s)". When you click this button, a file selection dialogue will appear.
Select one or more versions, then click "Open". The versions will be added to the canvas, and the comparison lines connecting to these next versions will be drawn automatically.
Compare versions that are not next to each other
Sometimes you may want to compare two versions that are not "next to each other". For example, you might want to compare version 1 to version 3.
Version Story makes it easy to compare any two documents, regardless of their relationship to one another.
To do this, simply control + click the two versions that you would like to compare (Command ⌘ + click on Mac). When you have selected two versions, the Compare button on the bottom toolbar will become active.
Click the Compare button and a redline will open in the document viewer.
